WorldPay US CEO Tony Catalfano is expected to make an “economic development announcement” Tuesday morning with Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and other state leaders.
That announcement will be about WorldPay’s plans to open an innovation center at the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC) in Midtown Atlanta, according to a source. Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported theinnovation center plans on Feb. 10.
WorldPay will underwrite an ATDC program aimed at building the next generation of payment technology companies, with an up to $1 million check, according to sources. The ATDC, a business tech incubator, is located at Georgia Tech.
WorldPay’s software development lab is aimed at building mobile and omni-commerce products, such as teller-based point-of-sale products and e-commerce platforms. Steve Karp, WorldPay’s senior vice president of Product and Portfolio Strategy is said to be leading the project.
WorldPay US is a unit of the London-basedWorldPay Group, a global card payment acquiring business that lets customers accept card payments at point-of-sale and over the internet. Earlier this year, WorldPay said it would relocate its headquarters to Atlantic Station.
